Network Engineer

A small, startup-like technical services team (roughly six people) building out a dedicated networking practice. The culture is laid-back but competency-driven, aiming to avoid the common pitfall of MSPs that stall growth due to a lack of deep networking expertise. The team works across diverse client environments, including specialized use cases like cinema and live-event technology setups.

The company is hiring a hands-on to serve as its core networking resource, enabling the team to confidently take on larger and more complex client opportunities. This is not a management-track role; it's designed for a technologist who wants to grow their skills broadly across networking, cloud, and adjacent technical domains as the company scales. Over time, the role is expected to evolve, with the engineer eventually training others and helping define their own specialization as the team expands.

• Design, deploy, and support multi-site, segmented networks with integrated voice and data (e.g., VPN/IPSec, BGP routing, voice gateways).
• Design, deploy, and support Azure networking solutions, including Virtual Networks (VNets), Network Security Groups (NSGs), VPN Gateway, ExpressRoute, Azure Firewall, Load Balancers, and hybrid connectivity between on-premises and Azure environments.
• Work across a multi-vendor technology stack including Cisco, Meraki, SonicWall, and Microsoft Azure.
• Deploy and manage firewalls (e.g., Sophos, SonicWall, Azure Firewall) and support routing protocol migrations (e.g., EIGRP to OSPF, MSTP) for compliance and vendor-neutral standards.
• Configure and troubleshoot VLANs, spanning tree, ACLs, trunk/uplink ports, and aggregated links (LACP).
• Perform systematic, evidence-based troubleshooting across both on-premises and Azure network environments, including remote coordination with onsite personnel for physical and hardware-level issues.
• Provide higher-tier technical support and contribute to cloud networking and infrastructure integration efforts.
• Engage flexibly across a variety of technical challenges, from firewall deployments to specialized customer needs (e.g., cinema/live event technology).
• Participate in client-facing technical discussions, architecture reviews, and pre-sales conversations as needed.
• As the team grows, help train junior engineers and contribute to defining the networking practice's direction.

• Solid progressive experience in network engineering, from junior configuration work to leading complex, multi-vendor deployments.
• Hands-on experience with Cisco routing/switching and SonicWall firewall deployment and management; SD-WAN orchestration experience is a plus.
• Experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting Microsoft Azure networking, including VNets, NSGs, VPN Gateway, ExpressRoute, Azure Firewall, Load Balancers, and hybrid networking.
• Familiarity with hybrid cloud networking, site-to-site VPNs, and integrating on-premises infrastructure with Azure is highly desirable.
• Relevant certifications preferred (e.g., Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Microsoft Azure AZ-700 or AZ-104, SonicWall SNSA), though not required if experience is strong.
• Willingness and ability to learn new platforms and technologies outside prior experience (e.g., multicast networking, IP-based CCTV, server management).
• Strong troubleshooting methodology, including systematic evidence gathering and clear communication with remote/onsite teams.
• Comfortable working in an unpredictable, fast-paced environment without rigid structure.
